I complete agree – it seems that Microsoft has really neglected “power users” in its recent OS designs. For example, the work required to find a machine’s IP address via the GUI is ridiculous. It does seem like some of this is being addressed in Windows 7 (e.g., the ability to easily move and resize program windows). Until then, there are a few good utilities that fill in the gaps.

I’ve just moved to Vista and I cannot believe that managing extra screens hasn’t moved on since XP at all – apart from hiding all the most popular buttons I can’t see what Microsoft have achieved with Vista. All very frustrating.
